Movie Night

Join us for movie night featuring:

Dawson Film Finds: Experience unique 1910s-1920s film clips which were lost for 50 years before their re-discovery in 1978.

The Klondike Viking: The unlikely true story of a mistreated run-away from Norway, Bill Hakonson, who built an unusual empire in Canada's far north.

The story of Bill Hakonson is one of ambition and adventure.  He was a small child when his family emigrated from Norway to Canada.  Shortly after they settled in Alberta Bill’s father died and his mother remarried.  Bill’s stepfather beat him, so Bill ran away when he was twelve years old.  By fourteen, he was working as a bellhop in the Hotel Vancouver where a rich old miner told him about fortunes to be made in Dawson City, Yukon. Bill eventually found his way north.  His life was rich in diverse experience: working in a casino, cooking for a cat train, managing a Dawson hotel, building and running his own hotel, opening a golf course, and yes, even gold mining.
